Do I need a build step or a plugin to use Fairu with Next.js?

Accepted Answer

No. Each file in Fairu already has a delivery URL, and you append width, height, quality, format or focal to it as query parameters. There is nothing to install and nothing to run at build time, so any component that can load an image URL is enough.

Question 2

Where does the resizing happen if not on my Node server?

Accepted Answer

On the Fairu file proxy. You keep one original, and every combination of width, height and quality is rendered there on the first request and then served from cache for 24 hours. WebP comes back without you asking, and format gives you JPG or PNG where you need them.

Will a square crop cut off the subject of my photo?

Accepted Answer

Only if nothing tells the crop where to look. The crop reads focal from the delivery URL — focal=50-50-1 next to width, on the same URL your img tag already points at. Move the dot onto the subject once and Fairu keeps that point on the file, so it can be filled in rather than typed. Subject detection after upload needs AI features on in the workspace settings, and they start off.

Can I take an image offline without a new deployment?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Block file in the file actions writes a block on the fingerprint and drops the cached renders, and the proxy checks that block on every request. Every byte-identical copy in your workspace goes with it, a fallback image you picked for blocked files goes out in its place, and the audit log records who did it.

How much can I test before I have to pick a plan?

Accepted Answer

The trial runs for 14 days without a card, and it ends earlier at 100 files, 5 disks, 0.5 GiB of delivered traffic or 5,000 AI tokens, whichever comes first. After that Fairu asks you to choose a plan before you carry on in the workspace.
